She likes to float from one thing to another and is very much someone who likes people to see the surface. Gossip attracts her like nothing else and a majority of her intelligence is spent digging up dirt and dishing it out at the opportune moment. However she is not vicious about it, there is no ulterior motive to her attempting to knock people off a few pegs, but she honestly believes that the truth should be out there. That means no matter how wicked or boring it is, if you did it people should know. She’s very easy to get along with and for the most part does not come off as very smart, which she finds is handy because people are more willing to talk to a dumb person than a smart one. Sure she was in Ravenclaw but only really people who spent a great deal of time with her would actually realize why. She avoids normal ‘smart kid’ activities because she very much wants to fit in more than anything else. Used to being the second best at things she just wants to fit in and be liked. Her brother was always seen as better than her back at home and so she strives to prove that people like her more. Her habit towards gossip has seemed to help this at least a bit, because in her group they want to hear the gossip. Sometimes she has doubts on if it is right or not but at this moment in time she is so desperate to just stay liked that people falling for her own advancement just can’t be helped. She was decent enough at school, but for the most part did not try her best because of what her parents had stuck in her head. While she knew on some level that she could never reach their approval, they were still her parents and that was how she shaped herself. She was a popular girl, one of the group, certainly not the one in charge of it. At work at the prophet however she has started to take on the shadow of up and coming reporter, Rita Skeeter. She is trying to follow in the woman's footsteps in what she sees as the fight to the truth, no matter how bad it looks on people. Truth is truth and that's what should matter. While she is not front page news material, her sweet face lets her get in places where she really shouldn't. Strengths: Intelligent, organized, gregarious. Weakness: Physically weak, self esteem issues, untrustworthy, accident prone Sexuality: Straight PB: Sabrina Lloyd Biography (three paragraphs minimum): Betty was the first born to Sophie and Gerald Braithwaite. The couple had been hoping dearly for a boy after trying so hard to have a child that Betty cam as a disappointment. Unfortunately her parents could never fully hide their disappointment. Their disappointment in her was quickly escalated upon the birth of her brother Barry some eighteen months later. For the rest of her life Betty would find herself competing with her younger brother. Betty desperately wanted to impress her parents growing up. While sports and activities naturally came to her brother she attempted to mimic them in an attempt to gain approval only to be told that she was being unladylike. Once school started she at least found an escape with the other children. She finally had friends around her own age since the children in her neighborhood were all several years older. Naturally friendly her fellow students and teachers thought her to be a delight in the classroom, if a bit prone to being a tattletale. Her marks were good too. However once her brother was in school her into school she got no attention for her own efforts. He just seemed to be better than her at everything. He had more friends, he was good at sports, and even though he was not as good in his marks hers were just forgotten. Girls were supposed to get good marks, but not too good or else they’d scare a boy away. Nothing ever seemed to set her apart in her parents eyes even though she tried to make them see that she was just as good. Often she would end up getting hurt attempting to try and show them, leading to them becoming unhappy. Though the doctors were amazed at how fast of a healer she was. Then the day of her 11th birthday she got a letter. Some school called Hogwarts was telling her that she was a witch of all things and that she was to g to this school. This was finally a chance to stand out from her brother and she was so excited to tell her parents. Her parents seemed less entranced with it. Her father called it a scam until they were bombarded with so many owls that they eventually had to give in. Even though her parents still refused to see it, for once Betty knew she was special and that she had something up on her brother that he could never have. Betty had not really heard much about Hogwarts but she had heard enough to be surprised when she was sorted into Ravenclaw. However once she was there she was certain it was the right choice. With her passion for the truth she did seem to just fit right in. In fact by her second year she actually became comfortable enough with everything to join in on some of the debates that happened in the common room. Not often of course, she still had the thought that boys did not like smart girls stuck in her head. In school she found that she fit in easily at divination and charms, which soon became her best subjects. Easily girl subjects she was glad she excelled at them. However she rarely got letters in reply to her own from her parents and when she did they were always going on and on about how wonderful her brother was. Holidays were an intense occasion for the family and Betty has found herself increasingly pushed towards the wizarding world, especially with graduation coming up. Once graduation did happen she managed to land an internship at the Prophet. However when she got off the train with her news, there was no one there to pick her up. She tried calling home on a payphone but no one would answer. Eventually she ended up catching a cab home only to find that her family was not home. Her stuff was in boxes in the living room and there was a note asking if she would please leave them be, since her 'world' was not th kind of thing they appreciated. Betty collected herself and called a few friends before finding someone she could stay with. She had money saved up from working over summers and it was enough to get her a tiny flat near work. She has never heard from her family since. If it had not been for her internship she would have been lost. However she ended up becoming a fairly well known face at the office and was always willing to take up any story. Though she lost a lot of the jucier stories to Rita Skeeter she knew that her time was going to come and with the war boiling up there was nothing else but to just seek the stories out herself. | |||||||||
